An activated plinth at the yard

The Old Wharf is getting an activated plinth. This begins at the gatehouse along the dike across from the Forge shed. The gate gives access to the semi-public green deck and the sunken parking garage. With about 70 parking spaces, it provides well for its own parking needs for about 50 homes and their visitors. Visitors to the parking garage and residents of the Dijkhuis reach the entrances to the homes from outside or via a central staircase to the green deck.

Werfhof

In the lee of the building, on the roof of the parking garage, there will be a publicly accessible garden with private terraces. The original landscape of the Zellingen is the inspiration for the design of the courtyard garden. A loose growing alder hedge, adjacent to a water feature with riparian plants, is the most recognizable reference to the original landscape. For the residents it will be a beautiful garden to live in, for the people of Krimpen it will be a place to discover. Three gates connect the green courtyard with the sturdy quay.

Program and housing differentiation

The plan contains a wide variety of housing types. The homes differ not only in size, but also in housing type, so that the plan will serve a broad target group. The majority consists of ground-floor apartments; from compact 2-room (starter) apartments to a good number of spacious apartments. But there are also town houses with front doors on the quay, a special gatehouse and some spacious penthouses.

Recognizable identities

In architectural appearance there are four recognizable identities, but as a whole forms an ensemble of residential buildings. There is variation, but also strong cohesion through the use of color and materials. Natural (bio-based) materials have been chosen, with beautiful aging and nuanced colors. All kinds of elements from the Zellinghuis are reflected in the contemporary translation of the buildings: the green frames, the facade 'on the run', the material and ornamentation. Each building has its own character, but adds something unique to the character of the yard.
