Westraven Rijkswaterstaat

Although this vision was ultimately not selected in the European design competition, we see it as an example of how a landmark such as Westraven can be transformed into an inspiring and sustainable workplace.

The Rijkswaterstaat headquarters in Westraven was central to our vision of a future-proof, sustainable, and inspiring building. Our design reinforced the existing qualities, such as the bright view from the high-rise and the clear structure, and gave the lesser areas a human scale, warmth, and identity. Greenery, natural materials, and circular reuse played an important role, ensuring that the building is not only functional and safe, but also invites interaction, collaboration, and inspiration.

Central to our plan was the connection between the different parts of the building. The central zone, the Grand Café, and the Event Space are meeting places that bring employees and visitors together in an accessible way. The voids were used as spatial anchor points, with themes and greenery that make the identity of Rijkswaterstaat visible. The workplace concept combined quiet zones for concentration with lively collaboration spaces, fully tailored to hybrid and activity-based working.
